The Economic Divide Present in Early Childhood Education

Problem Statement

Education is a Human Right.
This problem is a cycle of inequality that is driven by a lack of access to education that disproportionately affects underserved communities. Low-income areas are faced with significant economic barriers such as high costs and finding available and affordable programs that make it difficult for a child to receive a quality education. Because of this, children without a strong early childhood education lack foundational skills in social and emotional development. Many low-income families also do not have the same and just access to supplies and resources that a higher-income community does. For example, lack of air conditioning, writing utensils, trained teachers, and proper infrastructure all contribute to how a child learns and succeeds.
This project is related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #4 which strives to provide high-quality education for all.
